Please Google: Accomodation near [the course location] which will give you a choice of different accomodation.

Accreditation - ANTA (1)

Can I join this course & get PI Insurance if this course is not accredited by my association?

Yes - this course doesn't need to be accredited by your association in order to gain PI Insurance after successful course completion.

ANTA members and PI Insurance:

We've had many practitioners, including RMTs & Naturopaths who are members of ANTA, successfully complete our 80-hr Dry Needling course, gain a Dry Needling Therapy endorsement on their Certificate of Currency and start using Dry Needling Therapy the very next day.

Recently appointed ANTA Executive Officer, Jim Olds decided to withdraw the accreditation CPD HC held for our Dry Needling course since 2013 earlier this year. We amended the information that we display on our website to reflect this decision once we were satisfied that ANTA were not going to change their new policy and direction.

According to Mr Olds, his decision was based on a recent increase in the number of reported adverse events following Dry Needling therapy by Remedial Massage Therapists. We were advised that in order for our 80-Hour Dry Needling course to be accredited by ANTA we must increase the practical course component from 20 to 60 hours.

Since being advised of this new policy we have been in discussions with Mr Olds and have tried to explain that his decision to request an increase in the face to face hours for our Dry Needling course is not the solution to the undeniable increase in Dry Needling adverse events.

Arthur J Gallagher:

Well before ANTA became aware of an increase in Dry Needling incidents we took the initiative to contact Arthur J Gallagher, other major Group Insurers/Brokers, and the major professional associations about our concerns in 2017.

As the largest Dry Needling Education providers in Australia we became very concerned about some of the course standards, pre-requisite education, course content, presenter qualifications, and examination/testing protocols.

Throwing more face-to-face hours at a course doesn't make it safe and will not reduce the number of adverse events.

Evidence shows that it's much more important to ensure that a course has the following key components if it is to be deemed safe:

  • The qualifications & experience of the education provider
  • The training of the co-presenters
  • The student to presenter ratio
  • The testing & examination standards
  • The content of the course and safety emphasis
  • The anatomical knowledge of the presenter & required safe standard
  • The way that demonstrations are presented
  • Which muscles are covered during the course
  • Which other professional associations accredit a course

Following submissions to insurance brokers, Arthur J Gallagher (AJG) about our safety standards and protocols, our 80-Hour Dry Needling Course became the only Dry Needling course AJG recommend to their policy holders.

It is because of this status and strong relationship we have with AJG that we have now secured a co-branded Professional Indemnity policy for you, as an ANTA Member who may completed our 80-Hour Dry Needling course.

What to do next: PI Insurance for Dry Needling Therapy:

The process of gaining cover is easy.

Please contact Ms Claire Edwards, Internal Account Executive, Health & Wellness at AJG to discuss your insurance cover.

Email: claire.edwards@ajg.com.au

After course completion, Claire will send you an application form to complete so you can gain insurance to start needling and helping your clients.

CPE and ANTA:

As an ANTA Member, you're required to complete 20 hours of CPE per annum (Jan-Dec).

You can record your 80-hours of Dry Needling training as CPE Hours. ANTA's CPE guidelines state that members can log CPE hours in many ways including completing short courses and undertaking further study.

Here's the link to the relevant page on the ANTA website.

Other PI Insurers:

After successful completion of the 80-hr DN course, we send your Certificate of Completion that you send to your PI Insurer to gain a Dry Needling Therapy endorsement on your Certificate of Currency.

Some Insurance companies charge to add this endorsement whilst other do not.

Online Theory Program - Is there a limited time to complete the online theory program? (1)

Is there a limited time that I need to complete the 60-hr Online Theory by?

You can choose how much time you want to complete the modules.

The 60-hr Online Theory Program needs to be completed before joining your chosen practical course.

That means if you join a practical course that starts in 6 weeks time, you'll have 6 weeks to complete the modules. You'll need to study for an average of 10-hrs per week.

Or, if you join a practical course that starts in 10 weeks time, you'll have 6 weeks to complete the modules and you'll need to devote about 6-hrs per week to study.

If you need more time to study because of full time work, a busy family life or you take a little longer to learn, then choose a practical course that will give you enough time to complete the modules.

We advise practitioners to enrol at least 4 weeks before the practical course to complete the 60-hr online theory modules beforehand.

I've run out of time and I don’t think I’ll get my theory program before the practical course this weekend.

You can transfer to a practical course at a later date. We may be able to give you an extension depending on how much theory you’ve completed (Please Contact Us).

Practical Course - Am I expected to know all the grips, referral pattens and cation points before attending the practical course? (1)

1. We don't expect practitioners to remember referral pattens off by heart. They are a reference so when you attend the practical course you have some idea of the patterns when needling particular muscles. We will go over all these again at the practical.

2. The most important thing to do after completing the online theory program is to concentrate on the Muscle Safety Grid, taking note of & remembering the Caution points, Needle directions & Grips for each muscle on that grid. We will go over & teach all these again at the practical.

3. We don't expect practitioners to know the grips, but you'll find it easier to remember them when we teach you these at the practical course if you have some idea of names before attending the practical. We will go over & teach all these at the practical.

4. It's a good idea to cross reference the Muscle Safety Grid information with the practical course handout notes which you should download, print and bring to the practical course.

Both of these are available on the 'My Courses' page.

5. Please watch the 'How to Prepare for your Practical Course' video on the 'My Courses' page.

After studying the above you'll be well prepared to join the practical course.

Unfortunately, we don't run specific Dry Needling courses for Dentists. Our course involve techniques that cover the whole body.

Although you are highly qualified, unfortunately the Dry Needling courses are specially designed for manual therapists who have a high level of palpation skills and experience in locating trigger points in a large number of muscles in the whole body including the torso, low back, lower limb, ankle & foot - not just the head & neck.

In order to practice on each other, all practitioners attending the course need the confidence of knowing that others who are attending the course and needling them, have the necessary palpatory, clinical & surface anatomy skills of the whole body.

Yes. Practitioners who don't attain the safety standard required on the first practical test, are welcome to take a supplementary test on the same day.

Supplementary Practical Course Test (SPCT):

Our goal is to provide all students with the confidence to apply the safest Dry Needling techniques to help their patients. We support all students by providing them with practical training and theoretical knowledge, prior to and during the Practical course.

Our support assists all students in achieving their goal of delivering safe Dry Needling practice, gaining progressive confidence and achieving greater efficacy with experience.

Students who do not reach the required standard during the Practical Course Test will be offered a Supplementary Practical Course Test (SPCT) on the same day.

The format for the SPCT is similar to the Initial Practical Test but with two examiners and a model. Students are required to demonstrate safe needling practice of muscles included in the Muscle Safety Grid. The focus of the SPCT consists of surface anatomy, needling direction, caution points and the referral pattern for the relevant muscle.

A video recording of the SPCT will be taken to provide feedback for students, ensure testing consistency and provide evidence in case of disputes.

We strongly recommend that all students review and familiarise themselves with the answers to the Sample Questions list. The list is available on the "My Courses" page and will help you prepare for the Practical Course Test.

Transfer - Fee's (1)

Why are there fee's to transfer?

Unfortunately according to our Terms & Conditions, there's a $200 Transfer Fee / On Hold Fee for any practical course transfer 14 days or less from the practical course commencement.

The reason we charge transfer fee's is because we have:

  • organised & confirmed all our practical course presenters who often travel from interstate
  • booked the appropriate room size / number of rooms according to enrolment numbers
  • booked & confirmed all presenter flights & accommodation
  • booked all catering for 3 days according to enrolment numbers

Also, practitioners who may have been on a waitlist to join this course are unable to take up a place now because they do not have enough time to complete the online theory program before practical course commencement.

Transfer Fees at time of publishing (Sept 2019):

Dry Needling Introductory, 80-hr DN course, DN Podiatry, DN Supplementary, Dry Needling Advanced or DN Masterclass practical course:
