What to Expect at the Practical Course:

Our goal is to provide all students with the confidence to apply the safest Dry Needling techniques to help your patients.

We support all students by providing them with practical training and theoretical knowledge, prior to and during the Practical course.

The practical course is exactly that...very practical.

There's no written test.

After a short introduction and safety presentation, we'll get straight into watching the needling techniques and then all practitioners start practising on each other. Presenters will help and support you whilst you are learning the techniques throughout the training days.

We'll cover the arm muscles & upper traps on Friday, then the periscapular muscles, leg and low back on Saturday.

There'll be time to practice all the techniques again and again after we finish the low back on Saturday afternoon.

The Practical Test usually takes about 5-6 minutes.

No one will be watching you except a presenter. You'll pair up with another practitioner to complete the test.

The practical test on Saturday afternoon is to ensure every practitioner is safe to use Dry Needling Therapy on their patients and clients.

We understand that it's stressful so we try to make the environment as relaxed as possible.

Any questions asked at the test will have been covered on Friday & Saturday.

What to expect:

You do not need to needle at the test. You'll just use a guide tube instead to show the direction and placement if you had a needle.

Practitioners are expected to know the names of all muscles covered and their actions.

Then for each muscle, you need to know the caution structure and where it is...so you know how to avoid it.

That means pointing the guide tube away from a caution structure.

This is all available on the Muscle Safety Grid.

1. All practitioners will be asked to demonstrate safe needling (with a guide tube) to the following muscles:

Upper trapezius muscle AND Infraspinatus...

which we cover in great detail with 1-1 coaching during the training.

The caution structure is the lung.

**Please take time to watch the technique videos again showing the safe techniques for these 2 muscles.

Look at the muscle safety grid whilst watching the videos.

2. Then you'll be asked the following about either:

Triceps OR Biceps OR Soleus (so make sure you really know these 3).

Let's take Triceps as an example...

Show us where Triceps is - Upper arm
What does it do - Extend the elbow
What's the caution point- Radial nerve
Where does the Radial nerve start and finish - top of the shoulder to the inside of the elbow
Whats the grip - pincer grip to pull the muscle away
What direction would you needle Triceps - Lateral to medial... away from the nerve

Look at the muscle safety grid whilst watching the videos.

Once you have completed the above and you pass the safety test, then that's it!

You'll receive your Certificate of Completion on the day.

What happens if nerves get the better of you and you don't pass the first time?

You can take the test again if you want, at the end once everyone has been tested.

You'll be asked Upper trapezius or Infraspinatus again and then 1 or 2 other muscles on the muscle safety grid (any muscle on the grid).

Refund information during the Covid Period:

Cancelling your enrollment 15-days or more before your practical course commencement date:

If you've paid $1 and you'd like to cancel your enrollment, please let us know.

Your enrollment and payment plan will be cancelled and no further action will be required from you.

Cancelling your enrollment 14-days or less before your practical course commencement date:

If you cancel your enrollment 14-days or less before the practical course commencement date the CPD HC Refund Policy applies as below (T&Cs):

14-days or less notice from an initial practical course commencement:

A fee equal to 100% of the course fee or part thereof will be charged to the user.

Your enrollment will be cancelled and no further action will be required from you.

Other Options if you can't attend your practical course:

Transferring an Enrollment to a later date:

If a practitioner can't attend their practical course and would like to transfer their enrollment, 15-days or more before practical course commencement, they can do so without charge during the Covid period.

If a practitioner chooses to Transfer or put their enrolment On Hold 14-days or less prior to their practical course commencement date, there will be a transfer fee of $150.

How do I Transfer or go On Hold?

If a practitioner chooses to cancel their course enrolment at any other time outside of the Covid Period, the standard Terms & Conditions Refund Policy apply.

Please Note:

The $1 payment plan offer is only available once.

Please be aware that if a practitioner enrols in a course with a payment plan, making an initial payment of $1 and the final amount due 2 weeks before the practical course, and then cancels their enrollment before the final payment has been made, they will be unable to enrol in the next course with a payment plan.

They will need to pay the full amount at checkout, at the time of the next enrolment.

Practical Course

I'm enrolled in an upcoming practical course. Is my course running with the current Covid restrictions?

Most Dry Needling practical courses are scheduled to run in most locations from August 2020 onwards.

However as we all know, in this current environment things can change very quickly, so we ask for your patience & understanding if your course is re-scheduled to a later date at short notice.

Some courses may need to be rescheduled due to the following reasons.

1. Government Restrictions:

If we're unable to run a course due to Government restrictions, we'll contact all practitioners ASAP, before the practical course start date. Your course will be rescheduled to a later date.

2. Venues:

In order to run a practical course we are dependant on the centre to be open.

Fremantle:

Some teaching institutions such as UNDA (Fremantle WA) are not open yet (July 2020), so we're in daily contact with management for any updates.

We still hope to run the courses scheduled at UNDA in September & November. We'll keep you updated.

If we find an alternative venue to run the practical course in Perth, such as a Co-working space with a large room, we'll let you know.

Melbourne:

With SSNT (Fitzroy Melbourne) currently closed, we've recently secured a Co-working space in Hawthorn Melbourne to run the course from.

So all practical courses scheduled in Melbourne from September, will now be relocated to run from Hawthorn until the end of 2020.

Sydney, Brisbane, Adelaide, Hobart & Townsville:

All courses in the above locations above are scheduled to run from August and September 2020 onwards (correct as of 22nd July 2020).

Practical courses in Sydney, Brisbane, Adelaide, Hobart & Townsville run from Co-working spaces which have more flexible opening criteria, so these courses are scheduled to run as posted on the Locations page of the CPD HC website.

3. Presenter Availability:

We have very experienced presenters who live in most practical course locations, so we're not dependant on presenters travelling from one state to another in order to present a practical course.

We're closely monitoring advice given by the Australian Government Department of Health on any changes that may occur between now and your practical course commencement date. We'll keep you updated.

Once you’ve read the information, please submit the Health Questionnaire & Consent Form electronically below, at least seven days before the start of your practical course.

Please note that all our presenter team are fully vaccinated against COVID-19.

CPD Health Courses - COVID-Safe Plan

Before attending your practical course:

Please follow the advice given by state authorities regarding isolation rules following overseas and interstate travel.
Please do not attend the course if you think that you may have been in close contact with a confirmed case of coronavirus. You should monitor your health and seek urgent medical attention if this applies.
You should not attend the course if you have any medical condition that may compromise your immune system; these conditions are listed in the practical course consent form. Please ensure that you have read, understood and agree to the consent before attending the course.
You should not attend the course if you have flu-like symptoms like a cough, sore throat, fatigue, fever, shortness of breath, headache or runny nose. This applies to the period before attending the practical course or at any time during the course.

Please read carefully:

It is a government requirement that you are fully vaccinated to attend the practical course.
You may be asked to show your vaccine evidence by the venue staff or management, so please bring this with you to the practical course.
You must also check in to the venue using the government app and wear a face mask for the course duration.
By agreeing to this consent form, you confirm that you meet the vaccination requirements, check-in, face-mask requirements for these centres. Don't hesitate to Contact Us if you will not meet the vaccination requirements or have any concerns before your practical course.
We do not check the vaccines status of therapists attending the course unless we are compelled to do so by the venue staff. We will rely on the integrity of the information provided to us on your consent form.

ALL PRACTICAL COURSES

On arrival at your Practical course:

For us to ensure we can complete our COVID-Safe screening (see below); we ask all participants to arrive 30 minutes before the start of each day’s scheduled start time:
- Friday: Please arrive at 4:30 pm
- Saturday: Please arrive at 7:30 am*
- Sunday (if applicable): Please arrive at 7:30 am

*Podiatrist: Please arrive at 9:30 am on Saturday (no Friday Session)

You will be met at the venue entrance by one of our presenter team. Please do not enter the venue until you have been screened by one of our presenter team.
On arrival at your practical course, one of our presenter team will complete the COVID-Safe screening (see below) and temperature check (if required). The screening check involves answering a series of health-related questions and taking your forehead temperature.
If you answer “YES” to any of the screening questions on any of the course training days, unfortunately, you will not be able to attend the course, and you will be advised to seek medical advice or go to a COVID testing centre. We will also provide you with information about when and how you can resume your training.
If you become unwell while you are attending the course or report feeling any of the signs or symptoms common to COVID-19, unfortunately, you will be asked to leave the course and seek medical advice or go to a COVID testing centre. We will also provide you with information about when and how you can resume your training.
If you have any of the most common COVID-19 signs or symptoms or you have a temperature that is equal to or exceeds 37.4 degrees centigrade, you’ll be asked to seek immediate medical advice or visit a COVID-19 testing centre.

COVID-Safe Screening Questions

Have you have returned from any overseas or interstate travel within the last 7 days?
Have you been in close contact with a confirmed case of coronavirus?
Have you any flu-like symptoms like a cough, sore throat, fatigue, fever, shortness of breath, headache or runny nose?

Infrared Forehead Temperature Check (if required)

Before entry to the course, a member of our presenter team will take your temperature using an Infrared Forehead Thermometer. You will be allowed to enter the venue if your temperature is 37.3 or lower. If your temperature is 37.4 degrees centigrade or higher, you will not be permitted to join the course, and a second test will be carried out, five minutes later.
If your temperature is 37.4 degrees centigrade or higher after the rest period, unfortunately, you will be asked to seek immediate medical advice or visit a COVID-19 testing centre near the venue. Our presenter team will offer you a mask.

CONSENT

The CPD Health Courses Dry Needling Practical Course requires you to practice Dry Needling therapy on other course participants and to allow other participants to practice upon you. We will ask you to pair up with other course participants and rotate partners to get the most out of your training. These arrangements also ensure that the practical course runs on schedule.
If for any reason you withdraw your consent to be needled while attending the practical course, you will be asked to withdraw from the course and reschedule your training.

Informed Consent to Dry Needling therapy practice

Please read this document carefully. It’s designed to inform you of the possible risks and adverse reactions to Dry Needling therapy.

It’s your right to know this information for you to give informed consent to Dry Needling practice by other students on yourself and enable you to practise on others safely.

What are the possible risks & adverse reactions that are related to Dry Needling therapy?

The possible risks and adverse reactions to dry needling therapy include but are not limited to temporary pain, bleeding, bruising, infection, dizziness, nerve injury, pneumothorax, pregnancy termination, changes to blood pressure, rash, fainting, muscle soreness & fatigue.

What are the procedures CPD Health Courses have implemented to reduce the above risks?

We practice and teach the current safety and health hygiene protocols.

The following is a list of conditions that are the most common relative contra-indications to Dry Needling therapy:

• Open skin wounds or injuries

Unfortunately, due to COVIDSAFE social distancing restrictions on the number of people at a venue, we may not be able to accommodate therapists who wish to or are required to bring a model* to practise upon at the Dry Needling course at this time.

Please Contact Us us to confirm whether we can accommodate a model, should you need to provide one.

CPD Health Courses advises that you consult your medical doctor if you have any of the pre-existing conditions listed above, excluding pregnancy, to confirm that it is safe for you to attend the practical course. If you are pregnant you are required to provide a model for the duration of your practical course.

Masterclass Course

If you are attending the Masterclass Dry Needling Course and have undergone any type of the following surgery, please inform CPD Health Courses, by email (customerservice@cpdhealthcourses.com) so that we can modify the needling practice & ensure your safety during the course.

Course participant rights to privacy & modesty

It is always the intention of CPD Health Courses to respect your right to privacy and to protect your modesty during our courses.

As part of the examination & practice process, you may be required to remove your clothing.

This is to demonstrate the correct technique, teach the known risk factors and apply different treatment approaches.

CPD Health Courses will always try to minimise the amount of clothing you will be asked to remove & cover those areas that are not being treated directly.

If you have any concerns about this aspect of the course, please do not hesitate to contact us.

Photography

CPD HC reserves the right to take photographic images & video during practical courses. The purposes of these images are to improve products, promote courses & for research.

Students who attend a CPD HC practical session who do not wish to be photographed need to advise us in writing 48 hours before the start of the practical course.

Taking photos or recording video by students attending a practical course is strictly prohibited & a breach of CPD Health Courses intellectual property copyright.

Professional Indemnity Insurance Cover

CPD Health Courses strongly recommends that all practitioners who intend to use Dry Needling therapy following successful completion of this course are covered by Professional Indemnity Insurance to an appropriate level of cover.

CPD Health Courses advises all participants to contact their Professional Indemnity Insurer or Professional Association should they require assistance with respect to the appropriate cover.

Liability & Responsibility

CPD Health Courses is not responsible for accidents or incidents using information, techniques, theoretical knowledge or advice provided at our training courses, either during practical courses or following your training.

The decision to use Dry Needling by you as the therapist is entirely your own.

We offer education and training that is researched, based on the current understanding of the mechanisms, clinical reasoning processes, safety protocols and evidence in the published literature.

As with all therapeutic interventions, it is the responsibility and obligation of the therapist to decide if Dry Needling is appropriate, within their scope of practice and experience, safe and effective for each unique clinical presentation.

Refunds

I'm enrolled in the course and I'm pregnant. Can I still attend the practical course?

Please note: The CPD HC Standard Refund Policy applies from Jan 1st 2021.

COVID-19 No Needle Policy:

Prior to COVID-19 restrictions, we allowed practitioners who were unable to be needled due to pregnancy, to attend the practical course by providing a model at the practical course.

Due to restrictions on the number of people in a given space at present and the added safety procedures that we have implemented at our practical courses during the Covid restriction period, unfortunately this offer is only available if there are enough places available to include your model.

If you're a therapist who's already enrolled in a Dry Needling course and can't be needled, please Contact Us as soon as possible to let us know.

You'll need to bring a model to the whole practical course if there are enough places available (from Friday 5pm until Sunday 5pm).

You can only bring 1 model during ther Covid period.

How do I put my practical course On Hold or Transfer to a Practical course at a later date?*

To put your Dry Needling practical course enrollment On Hold or Transfer please Log in and click 'My Courses' under 'My Account'.

Then click the [Transfer] link next to your current course enrollment.

Click the 'Go On-Hold' button or choose a practical course at a later date.

After payment (only charged if transferring 14 days or less prior to the practical course commencement date), you'll receive an email with details about your transfer.

When you're ready to join a practical course, you can log in and click [Transfer] on the 'My Courses' page and choose the practical course you'd like to join (no extra charge).

Access to the online theory modules & practical technique videos will be extended.

Alternatively, please Contact Us and we'll put your enrollment On Hold / Transfer your enrolment for you.

You should not attend the course if you think that you may have been in close contact with a confirmed case of coronavirus, you should monitor your health and seek urgent medical attention
You should not attend the course if you have any medical condition that may compromise your immune system, these conditions are listed in the practical course consent form
Any course participant who develops a cough, sore throat, fever, headache or runny nose will be asked to seek urgent medical attention and discontinue their practical course training
We will continue our standard practice of applying hand sanitiser before all Dry Needling practice sessions and wearing gloves on the non-needling hand. In addition, we will insist on all course participants washing their hands before meal breaks
All treatment tables will be wiped down after each use, using alcohol wipes
All course participants will be reminded about covering their mouth and nose with a tissue or arm if they sneeze or cough
We will review all these practices and advice before course commencement to ensure everyone is aware of the procedures and systems, we have implemented for your safety

Although we have decided to go ahead with your practical course, we are closely monitoring the advice given by the Department of Health for any changes and any impact this may have on our decision.

Please read this document carefully. It’s designed to inform you of the possible risks and adverse reactions to Dry Needling therapy.

It’s your right to know this information for you to give informed consent to Dry Needling practice by other students on yourself and enable you to practise on others safely.

What are the possible risks & adverse reactions that are related to Dry Needling therapy?

The possible risks and adverse reactions to dry needling therapy include but are not limited to temporary pain, bleeding, bruising, infection, dizziness, nerve injury, pneumothorax, pregnancy termination, changes to blood pressure, rash, fainting, muscle soreness & fatigue.

What are the procedures CPD Health Courses have implemented to reduce the above risks?

We practice and teach the current safety and health hygiene protocols.

The following is a list of conditions that are the most common relative contra-indications to Dry Needling therapy:

Unfortunately, due to COVIDSAFE social distancing restrictions on the number of people at a venue, we may not be able to accommodate therapists who wish to or are required to bring a model* to practise upon at the Dry Needling course at this time. Please contact us to confirm whether we can accommodate a model, should you need to provide one.

CPD Health Courses advises that you consult your medical doctor if you have any of the pre-existing conditions listed above, excluding pregnancy, to confirm that it is safe for you to attend the practical course. If you are pregnant you are required to provide a model for the duration of your practical course.

It is always the intention of CPD Health Courses to respect your right to privacy and to protect your modesty during our courses.

As part of the examination & practice process, you may be required to remove your clothing.

This is in order to demonstrate the correct technique, teach the known risk factors and apply different treatment approaches.

CPD Health Courses will always try to minimise the amount of clothing you will be asked to remove & cover those areas that are not being treated directly.

Photography

CPD HC reserves the right to take photographic images & video during practical courses. The purposes of these images are to improve products, promote courses & for research.

Students who attend a CPD HC practical session who do not wish to be photographed need to advise us in writing 48 hours before the start of the practical course.

Taking photos or recording video by students attending a practical course is strictly prohibited & a breach of CPD Health Courses intellectual property copyright.

The best way to top up your hours is to enrol in the Dry Needling Course for Remedial Massage Therapists and complete the 60-Hr online theory program and then the Advanced practical course only on Sunday (8-5pm), as you've already successfully completed the DN Intro course.

The 60-hr theory program automatically includes the DN Intro modules that you've completed but we can't seperate these, so just complete them again as revision.

Please join a Dry Needling Course for Remedial Massage Therapists in your chosen location that's within the next 3 months, otherwise you'll need to complete the DN Intro practical course again (as the 80-Hr DN practical course is meant to be completed in one weekend).

Now...The MOST important thing to do after completing the online theory program, is to concentrate on completing the Muscle Safety Grid.

1. Where do I find the Muscle Safety Grid?

The Muscle Safety Grid can be found on the Dry Needling Video Training App which is available from the App Store & Google Play store.

You can download the App for FREE by clicking Here.

2. What should I do next?

Please log in to your 'My Courses' page and watch the "How to Study for your Practical Course" video.

The video explains how to download the Dry Needling Video Training App from the App Store & Google Play store.

It also provides you with the DN Intro Muscle Safety Grid Password that you'll need in order to access and download the completed Muscle Safety Grid on the Dry Needling Video Training App.

After installing the App on your phone or tablet, you can download the Safety Grid by clicking the icon in the top left corner of the page (small circle with 3 lines).

Scroll down the page & click 'Safety Grid Links'. Then add the password and the completed Safety Grid will appear.

3. Please download and print the DN Introductory Practical Course Handout Notes (and the Advanced Notes) and bring them to the practical course.

How Much Time

What if I can't complete my Online Theory Modules before the practical course?

All modules need to be successfully completed before joining the practical course.

If a practitioner has completed LESS than 75% of their online theory program by midnight, the day before before practical course commencement date, a practitioner will not be permitted to attend the practical course the next day.

We understand that things change and practitioners are not always able to complete the theory in time to attend the practical course.

So we've made it really easy to transfer to another practical course at a later date.

How to Transfer:

You can Transfer your enrollment by logging in and clicking 'My Courses' under 'My Account'.

Then click the 'Change My Course Date' link next to your current course enrollment.

Choose your practical course - allowing enough time time to complete all your theory modules before joining the practical course.

You'll be able to pay the Transfer fee at the next step.

After payment, you'll receive a new Welcome email with details about your practical course which is also confirmation of your enrolment in the course.

If you're on a payment plan you'll be able to adjust the payments/ dates, according to the course you've transferred to.

Are there any tests?

There are multiple-choice questions after each module of the online theory.

You can attempt these as many times as you like.

Practical Test:

There's a test at the end of the Intro Practical course to ensure every practitioner is safe to use Dry Needling Therapy.

We try to make the environment as relaxed as possible.

The practical test is completed on the last day of the practical course, at the end of the teaching session.

Practitioners get LOTS of time to practice for the test with instructors available to answer any questions before the test.

What to expect:

We provide a 2 page Muscle Safety Grid which can be downloaded from the online theory page.

The Muscle Safety Grid is the Go-To document for the practical course, after completing the theory.

All practitioners will be asked to demonstrate safe needling to the upper trapezius and infraspinatus muscles (using a guide tube only).
Practitioners will also be asked questions about the needling technique for either Biceps, Triceps or Soleus, including surface anatomy, referral pattern, caution points and needling direction.
To feel fully prepared, please study & learn the Muscle Safety Grid.

If the safety standard isn't met with the upper trapezius, Infraspinatus or one of the other muscles during the first test, then a student can re-take the test again at the end of testing (Supplementary Test).

This second test may include the upper trapezius and infraspinatus again plus any muscle from the Muscle Safety Grid.

Once you've enrolled, please ensure that you study & review the Module: Preparing for your Dry Needling Introductory Practical Course which is part of your Online Theory requirement.

In addition, your practical skills will also be assessed throughout the practical course to ensure you maintain a safe standard of practice.

What happens if I don't pass the Supplementary Practical Course Test?

If a practitioner does not pass the Supplementary Practical Course Test, they can complete the Supplementary Dry Needling Course again.

This means enrolling & completing the Dry Needling online theory & practical course again at a reduced price of $350.

Please note: CPD Health Courses reserves the right to video all practical examinations. The purpose of recording the practical examination is to provide important feedback to practitioners about their performance. The practical examination video recordings will be made available to the therapists on request (Terms & Conditions).

What happens if I don't pass the practical test on Saturday?

What happens if I don't pass the practical test the first time?

Practitioners who don't attain the safety standard required on the first practical test, are welcome to take a Supplementary Practical Course Test (SPCT) on the same day, after all other practitioners have been tested.

If a practitioner does not pass the Supplementary Practical Course Test, they can complete the Supplementary Dry Needling Course.

This means enrolling & completing the Dry Needling Course again which includes completing all online theory modules & the practical course again. On successful completion of the practical course test, practitioners can continue onto the Advanced techniques on Sunday.

The cost of enrolling in the Supplementary Dry Needling Course is $350.

If I don't pass the practical course test, can I have a re-test on the same day?

Yes. Practitioners who don't attain the safety standard required on the first practical test, are welcome to take a supplementary test on the same day.

Supplementary Practical Course Test (SPCT):

Our goal is to provide all students with the confidence to apply the safest Dry Needling techniques to help their patients. We support all students by providing them with practical training and theoretical knowledge, prior to and during the Practical course.

Our support assists all students in achieving their goal of delivering safe Dry Needling practice, gaining progressive confidence and achieving greater efficacy with experience.

Students who do not reach the required standard during the Practical Course Test will be offered a Supplementary Practical Course Test (SPCT) on the same day.

The format for the SPCT is similar to the Initial Practical Test but with two examiners and a model. Students are required to demonstrate safe needling practice of muscles included in the Muscle Safety Grid. The focus of the SPCT consists of surface anatomy, needling direction, caution points and the referral pattern for the relevant muscle.

A video recording of the SPCT will be taken to provide feedback for students, ensure testing consistency and provide evidence in case of disputes.

What happens if I don't pass the Supplementary Practical Course Test?

If a practitioner does not pass the Supplementary Practical Course Test (a requirement to continue onto the Advanced course on Sunday), they can complete the Supplementary Dry Needling Course again. This means enrolling & completing the Dry Needling online theory & practical course again at a reduced price of $350.

If I'm unsuccessful in passing the practical test, how do I enrol in the Supplementary Course?

Practitioners who don't attain the safety standard required on the first practical test, are welcome to take a Supplementary Practical Course Course.

How do I enrol in a Supplementary Dry Needling Course?

Practitioners can enrol in any Supplementary Dry Needling Course in any location, at any time by clicking HERE.

Please ensure you complete all your mandatory theory online modules and take time to watch the non-mandatory practical technique videos.

First of all, we try to make the test as least stressful as possible.

We understand that tests can create nerves and nerves can make our minds go blank :((

The best way to lessen your nerves and feel prepared for the test is to know what the test involves.

1. Watch the online practical technique videos:

If you've already watched the practical technique videos, watch them again.

You'll see them again at the practical course next weekend.

2. Study the Muscle Safety Grid:

Now the most important thing to study now is the Muscle Safety Grid (MSG) which you can download & print from the online theory page.

This is the go-to document for the practical course and the practical test.

It's a good idea to look at the MSG whilst you review the practical technique videos again.

This is because it's a condensed document with all the Muscle Caution points, Needle directions, Grips and Referral patterns for each muscle with a caution point.

This is what you need to study and remember for the test...especially the names of the caution points for each muscle.

But especially for Biceps, Triceps and Soleus.

3. What to expect at the practical test on Saturday afternoon:

The practical test on Saturday afternoon is to ensure every practitioner is safe to continue on to the more Advanced techniques on Sunday.

We try to make the environment as relaxed as possible.

You don't need to needle your model during the test...just use a guide tube to show where you'd place it and in which safe direction.

The test usually lasts about 5 mins and no one will be watching you except a presenter.

The first muscle you'll be asked to demonstrate will be the Upper Trapezius muscle.

We will go over this technique in fine detail, many times on Saturday morning with 1 to 1 coaching.

At the test you'll be asked...what's the grip, what's the safe needle position & direction and what's the caution point.

After showing the upper traps technique safely, you'll be asked the following about any one of these muscles...Biceps, Triceps or Soleus:

where is the muscle
what's its action
what's the caution point
what's the grip
what's the safe needle direction
what's the referral pattern

If you can show how you would safely needle (using a guide tube) one of the above muscles then you'll pass and you'll be able to join the Advanced course on Sunday.

What if you don't pass the first test?

If you don't attain the required safety standard on the first practical test, you can take the test a second time at the end of testing, on the same day - the Supplementary Practical Course Test (SPCT).

The format for the SPCT is similar to the Initial Practical Test but with two examiners (one will test the other will video).

Students are required to demonstrate safe needling practice of the upper trapezius again plus any 2 other muscles that are on the Muscle Safety Grid.

The focus of the SPCT is again on the anatomy, needling direction, caution points and the referral pattern for the relevant muscle.

Why do we take a video of the second test?

A video recording of the SPCT will be taken to provide feedback for students, ensure testing consistency and provide evidence in case of disputes.

What happens if I don't pass the Supplementary Practical Course Test?

If a practitioner does not pass the Supplementary Practical Course Test (a requirement to continue onto the Advanced course on Sunday), they can complete the Dry Needling Course again.

This means enrolling in the same course again, studying the online practical technique videos again & completing the Dry Needling practical course & test again.

The cost of the Supplementary Course is $350.

Why do we charge cancellation fees?

Terms & Conditions:

In order to enrol in a course, all practitioners are required to agree that they have read and agreed to the CPD HC Terms & Conditions on the checkout page before any course fees are paid.

Online Theory:

After enrolling in the course, you had immediate access to the 60-hr online theory program.

Practitioners need to complete all online theory modules, before attending the practical course.

We sent you a Welcome email with details of how to start your online theory program.

This theory program provides a practitioner with all the necessary technical information needed in order to attend the practical course, including videos of the DN practical techniques. Access to the theory program is included in the course fee.

When you enrolled in the course, you had full access to the 60-hr online theory program & technique videos from June 6 2022 until attendance at your chosen practical course course on X.

Placing an enrollment On Hold:

We understand that things can change and a practitioner may not be able to attend the practical course date they initially enrolled in.

Due to this, there is an easy option for practitioners to self-transfer from a practical course and place an enrollment on hold indefinitely.

This means the practitioner can continue to access & complete the 60-hr online theory program until they are ready to join a practical course at a more suitable time.

A practitioner can transfer from On Hold to a practical course at any time.

Why do we charge cancellation fees?

In order to run a business, we need to organise the number of presenters teaching at a given course, flights, accomodation, catering and book training rooms well ahead of time.

We need to organise & confirmed all practical course presenters, who often travel from interstate
Course presenters block off time from their private practices in order to present at the practical course
We need to book & pay for the appropriate training room according to enrolment numbers
We need to book & confirm all presenter flights & accommodation
We need to schedule the catering according to enrolment numbers
We need to order, ship and store enough needling supplies according to course numbers

If a practitioner decides to cancel their enrolment less than 4 weeks before the practical course date, other practitioners may be restricted from joining the course because they do not have enough time to complete the online theory program before attending the practical course.

Therefore, due to all of the above reasons which may not have been considered, we do not feel it is unreasonable to charge a cancellation fee based on the number of days a practitioner cancels their enrollment before the practical course commencement date.

You can also “hard refresh” a certain webpage to clear the cache for that single page.

This is typically done by holding Shift and pressing refresh or reload.

Internet Speed

Your Internet speed is slow. You need a moderate to fast internet speed.
Your download speed should be at least 5 Megabits per second. You can check your Internet speed by clicking HERE.
If your Internet speed is less than our recommendation you should try and connect to a faster network e.g. home/work/friend/library/university/college.
Another reason could be that you're connecting to the Internet using a wireless connection.
A wireless connection is significantly slower than a direct connection using a LAN cable to your modem.

Resetting Your Internet Connection

Just like uploading, an internet connection can affect playback. Try resetting your router and make sure you have a secure connection. All set? It’s time to start investigating.

It’s always a good idea to keep your software up to date. If you’re on an older version of a browser or operating system, there may be a bug that has been fixed with a more recent update. If a video is failing to play or consistently stuck buffering/loading, make sure you’re using the most up-to-date version of your browser or OS.

This is especially true on mobile devices, as the difference between versions can often have serious implications for certain functionality being supported or not. For example, iOS only started to support silent autoplay as of iOS10.

Disable Browser Extensions

Whether you’re using Extensions in Chrome or Safari, Firefox Add ons, or any kind of browser plugin, these 3rd party programs can sometimes cause unexpected problems when watching videos. Some example issues include preventing video playback, subverting stats, or trying to download a video instead of playing it.

The easiest way to test if a plugin is causing the problem: open an Incognito or Privacy browsing window.

Every browser has some option for a “Private” mode which will disable any extensions/plugins automatically. If the problem goes away in that window, then it’s time to disable all your plugins and turn them back on one-by-one.

As you re-enable each plugin, see if the problem returns. When it does, you know which plugin is causing the problem, and you will want to uninstall it, or set up an exception for pages with videos.

The Dry Needling practical courses are scheduled to run in most locations from August 2020 onwards.

However as we all know, in this current environment things can change very quickly, so we ask for your patience & understanding if courses are full or a course is re-scheduled to a later date at short notice.

If we find an alternative venue to run the practical course from, such as a Co-working space with a large room, we'll let you know.

With SSNT (Fitzroy Melbourne) currently closed, we've recently secured a Co-working space in Hawthorn Melbourne to run the course from.

So all practical courses scheduled in Melbourne will now be relocated to run from Hawthorn until the end of the year.

Sydney, Brisbane, Adelaide, Hobart & Townsville:

In other locations such as Sydney, Brisbane, Adelaide, Hobart & Townsville, we run our courses from Co-working spaces which have more flexible opening criteria compared to teaching Institutions. These courses are scheduled to run as posted on the Locations page of the CPD HC website.

Presenter Availability:

We have very experienced presenters who live in most practical course locations, so we're not dependent on presenters travelling from one state to another in order to present a practical course.

We're also closely monitoring advice given by the Australian Government Department of Health on any changes that may occur between now and your practical course commencement date. We'll keep you updated.

Dry Needling Course for Remedial Massage Therapists Information.

The Dry Needling Course for Remedial Massage Therapists is open to RMT's (Diploma of Remedial Massage Therapy) and Sports Therapists (Advanced Diploma in Sports Therapy).

Due to Professional Associations & PI Insurance guidelines, RMTs need to complete 80-hrs of Dry Needling training.

This course consists of an online theory program, recommended practical technique exercises plus practical training.

The course includes all the Introductory Dry Needling techniques. After successful practical course completion, you'll be qualified to use Dry Needling Therapy the very next day.

The online theory needs to be completed before joining the practical course.

We recommend practitioners enrol at least 4 weeks before practical course commencement in order to complete the online theory modules before joining the practical course.

Here’s some important information about APA course accreditation.

The APA doesn't regulate what you do as CPD. The choice of CPD content is up to you.

We've trained thousands of Physiotherapists all over Australia in Dry Needling Therapy from 2013 to the present date.

You can log 20-CPD hours (40-points) and gain PI insurance cover for Dry Needling Therapy after successfully completing the CPD Health Courses DN Introductory course.

The Australian Physiotherapy Association (APA) stopped accrediting ANY external continuing professional development courses including Dry Needling courses as of Jan 2017.

Our Dry Needling Introductory & Advanced Dry Needling Courses held continuous accreditation by the APA from Jan 2013 to Jan 2017.

What does this mean for Physiotherapists who wish to undergo Dry Needling training concerning recording of CPD Hours & obtaining Professional Indemnity Insurance cover?

Once we became aware of the new APA CPD framework we endeavoured to clarify the implications for Physiotherapists concerning Dry Needling training.

After correspondence (see below) with both the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) and the APA Group Insurer (Insurance House), we are pleased to confirm that Physiotherapists will be able to record CPD hours to meet the Physiotherapy Board of Australia’s Registration Standard and will be able to obtain PI Insurance cover once they successfully complete CPD Health Courses Dry Needling training.

Are there any practical tests?

The practical course runs on Friday 4pm-8pm, Saturday 8am-6pm.

After completing your online theory program, you're ready to attend the practical training at a location of your choice.

There's a practical test on Saturday afternoon to ensure every practitioner is safe to use Dry Needling Therapy.

We try to make the environment as relaxed as possible. Any questions asked at the test will have been covered.

Presenters will be assessing practitioners' safe needling handling throughout the day.

What to expect:

Practitioners are expected to know the names of all muscles covered and their actions.

All practitioners will be asked to demonstrate safe needling to the upper trapezius muscle.

Each practitioner will also pick 1-2 muscles out of a bag and asked questions about the needling technique for that muscle, including the name, location, surface anatomy, referral pattern, caution points and direction of needling.

Every question asked will relate to muscle surface anatomy & safe needling techniques taught in the practical course so make sure you take good notes throughout the day.

What happens if I don't pass the practical course test, can I have a re-test on the same day? Yes.

Practitioners who don't attain the safety standard required on the first practical test, are welcome to take a Supplementary Practical Course Test (SPCT) on the same day.

If a practitioner does not pass the Supplementary Practical Course Test they can complete the Supplementary Dry Needling Course.

This means enrolling & completing the Dry Needling Course again which includes completing all online theory modules & the practical course again.

The cost of enrolling in the Supplementary Dry Needling Course is $350.

In addition, your practical skills will also be assessed throughout the practical course to ensure you maintain a safe standard of practice.

The purpose of recording the practical examination is to provide important feedback to practitioners about their performance. The practical examination video recordings will be made available to the therapists on request (Terms & Conditions).

I'm an RMT. I'd like to enrol in the DN Course, but I'm worried I don't know enough anatomy to pass the practical test.

The 80-hr DN Course is open to RMT's (Diploma of Remedial Massage Therapy), Sports Therapists (Advanced Diploma in Sports Therapy).

This course consists of 68-hrs of online theory program plus 12-hrs practical course: Total 80-hrs DN training.

The 68-hr online theory program provides you with all the necessary clinical & surface anatomy presented in easy-to-watch video modules.

You can stop & start as many times as you like.

After enrollment - if you decide it's not for you, if you let us know within 1 week of enrolling, we'll cancel your remaining payment.
